Blake Johnson has spent the majority of his career advancing educational opportunities for children and families and advocating for his community. He currently serves as a President and CEO of IndyHub, an organization dedicated to growing and empowering a community of 20- and 30-somethings who are meaningfully connected to Indy and invested in its future. Blake oversees all aspects of the day-to-day management, operation and strategy for IndyHub and the IndyHub Foundation.
Most recently, Blake served as a vice president of communications at Complete College America, a national nonprofit dedicated to increasing the number of Americans who are able to earn a college degree or career certificate. In addition to overseeing national communications strategy, Blake worked with states on implementation of public policies that seek to close the skills gaps and ensure many more students are able to finish college and move into rewarding careers.
Prior to that, Blake served as a senior advisor to Congressman André Carson in the United States House of Representatives. Previously, Blake taught in the Indianapolis Public Schools as an instructor in language arts and leadership development, working specifically with at-risk students who had been removed from traditional classrooms due to perpetual behavior issues.Blake was raised in east central Indiana, where his parents still live today. Blake's father is a lifelong autoworker and his mother worked as a nurse before transitioning to stay home full-time to raise Blake and his two sisters.Blake holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and communications from Eckerd College and a master’s degree in teaching from Marian University in Indianapolis. He, his wife Natalie, and their two dogs live on the Eastside of Indianapolis.
