I am writing today to let you know that I have decided not to seek re-election to the Indianapolis City-County Council in 2015. Many of you may have noticed that my name was not on the Democratic ballot during the May Primary. I want to thank the voters of Council District 17 and the former Council District 15 for their past support during my 28 years on the Council. I recognize that I would not have been able to serve for all these years without the continuous support of so many wonderful people on Indianapolis’ Eastside.
I also recognize that my decision leaves voters with an important choice to make in the November election, and I want to ensure our next City Councilor will work hard for every person in the district. Therefore, I am endorsing Blake Johnson for City Council in the new District 12. I believe Blake will serve all constituents in District 12 in a professional, ethical and responsible manner.
Over the course of the next several months, I hope many of you will have the opportunity to meet and talk with Blake as he campaigns door-to-door, attends neighborhood meetings and spends time at social events on the Eastside of Indianapolis. Blake lives on the Eastside and works for Complete College America, a national nonprofit dedicated to increasing the number of people who are able to both access and complete a college degree or career certificate. Blake and I have spent time discussing those issues that concern our neighborhoods, namely public safety, infrastructure, economic development and the importance of providing responsive, transparent and accessible city government.
I know Blake will do us all proud, and I look forward to working with him every step of the way. Once again, I am grateful for and humbled by the tremendous support you have provided to me for many years. I can be reached at 317.690.6606. Thank you!
